John Burn An exciting overview from Sika Tooling & Composites manufacturer of the latest composite epoxy systems for RTM, infusion, filament winding and wet lay up processes. In the last 18 months Sika and John Burn have been working closely with many of the industry leaders to create tailor made solutions for the production of wind turbine blades, yachts, sculpture and automotive production parts. The key to the success of these products has been the ability of the two companies to understand the very essence of the customers technical requirements and only by working in partnership with these comapanies accross all levels has it been possible to formulate the products that are able to not only deliver the right solution, but exceed and enhance the process used by their customer. This presentation contains both technical content and actual customer case studies and highlights the importance and need for a modern materials manufacturer the size of Sika to able to listen and respond to their customers quickly and be flexible as well as proactive in the pursuit of the best product solution for the rapidly changing manufacturing environments. |

| 12.10 | Dantec Dynamics Title: Laser Shearography - NDT for Composites Laser Shearography is a relatively new non destructive testing/evaluation technique, designed and developed specifically for use on composites. This presentation will provide background on the theory of the technique and examples of various equipment available from systems for R&D and In-service inspection to automated inspection systems for post manufacturing quality assurance. It will also present a number of applications including those from Aerospace, Military, Automotive, Marine Engineering and Wind Energy sectors. Finally information on standards and training/certification will also be provided. |

Sonatest Composite materials offer many advantages over traditional materials, but have their own types of manufacturing defects and in-service susceptibility. Ensuring quality, defect free structures is essential in many of the safety critical applications where composite materials are now used. The tools have been developed to give high quality results in a very productive and easy to use way, and have been qualified by leading Tier 1 aerospace manufacturers. |

JR Technology The detection of defects in composite or metal bonded structures is commonly performed by skilled inspectors, who tap the testing surface with a hammer (eg.- coin) to detect structural changes by listening to the difference in tone. The Woodpecker was developed around 20 years ago to display this process quantitatively & to eliminate human error. The tapping hammer was driven by a solenoid with the degree of the defect detected by a sensor fitted to the hammer & interpreted by a CPU built into the Handpiece. Quality difference from the standard set-point was displayed by a series of LED’s & an alarm. The development of the WP-632M Monitor allowed the numerical reading of the contact time (in milli-seconds) of the structure under test to be displayed, saved, viewed & downloaded to a PC as required. The Woodpecker WP-632AM has this display incorporated in the Handpiece. With the recent launch of the optional XY plotter the user is able to view this information against the position of the unit on a PC as a colour tile map or numerically; if used in real time. This record can be saved & printed creating traceability of a scan. Unlike conventional manual tapping, it shows the degree & size of defect even in a noisy environment. The device is accurate, light & compact, requiring little operator training. Therefore the Woodpecker represents a revolutionary advance in NDT inspection. |

Vistagy Learn how Tier 2 and Tier 3 suppliers can improve their chances of winning contracts for programs that call for parts and assemblies comprised of a significant amount of advanced composite materials. The discussion addresses how to implement processes and tools that enable companies to reduce the risks of working with composite materials while meeting stringent customer requirements and deadlines. In this presentation you will learn how to: - Win more bids by streamlining the bid-to-ship process Although the exchange of ideas will reference challenges faced in the aerospace industry, lessons learned are directly applicable to all industries that design and manufacture composite products. |
